Shopping when you are in North York
Created by Angelina Liu
This is Angelina Liu and I have been in Canada for a month. This paper mainly talks about where you can buy those you want in North York, Toronto, especially when you are a new-comer. Before introducing the shops and malls, I would like to recommend an App called Google Map since it really helps in this big city.
Shoppers Drug Mart is a good place for you to buy daily stuff, especially juice, drinks and make ups. There are assistants for make-ups, and feel free to ask their advice when you have no idea with the products there. They are really helpful and knowledgeable. There are many shoppers in this city, but if you live in North York, I highly recommend the one at finch station. You can also get your vaccine there with an appointment.
The second place is called T&T Supermarket (Da Tonghua), which is a Chinese-targeted market with Asian food (mostly Chinese food). It makes me feel like in China since there are many Chinese people and you can even pay by WeChat. It is a good place to buy traditional Chinese food and they also offer delivery. You can download their App to choose what you want when you feel hard to go outside. When I first came Canada, I bought almost everything there online. If you want to go there in-person, there is one in North York and one in downtown.
Dollarama sells cheaper stuff and you can find your kitchen tools there like bowls, spoons, chopsticks and so on. There is one in North York center, which means you need to take the subway for one-stop (if you begin in finch station).
Dingtai is also a Chinese market and it sells fresh and cheap vegetables, meat and fruits. It is a bit far from my place but I feel it worth every time I go there. If you live in North York like me, you might take bus 39 and walk for less than 10 minutes to be there. It is a large market and I highly recommend pork chops there. You can ask them to help you cut the meat. Sellers there can speak Chinese very well, so you can communicate with them for any problem.
Yorkdale Mall gives you opportunity to buy great brands like Canada Goose Samsung and MAC. You can take bus in finch station and then change to subway to get there. Remember that during some time (like boxing week) you may need to make an appointment online for specific store. (That’s the reason why I cannot enter Canada Goose last time.)
These are places that you can find what you want in North York. Wish you everything the best living in Toronto!
